Hi, I've just completed my very first FSFS flight. I am using V4.6. On approach I found that the buttons on my controllers which operate Gear and Flaps no longer worked. I had raised the gear and retracted flaps after take-off. The problem persisted after disconnecting FSFS. Restarting FSX restored the buttons to normal function. A check in Controls/Buttons and Keys showed the assignments in FSX to be normal, before and after the restart. Has anyone else had this problem? Regards, Jim H.

Hi Jim: I can only imagine that the flaps and gear were perhaps lowered when a little too fast for either. FSFS will cause the gear and flaps to be damaged (which it simulates by the fact that they cannot be moved) if the pilot flies with them in use at speeds above the permissable flaps and gear speeds for several seconds. Mr Smith will mention it immediately and the pilot has several seconds to retract them before hearing a very unpleasant loud sound that indicates that... we have a problem... So... it is being done deliberately by FSFS, but it certainly will not occur if your flaps and gear are up, or only lowered at appropriately slower speeds.

Hi, Thanks for the quick reply. You are quite right, as I was all over the place, no blame to the instructor! Does it take a restart of fsx to repair the damage to the flaps? I disconnected FSFS - no change, I changed aircraft to the default Cessna - the flaps retracted, and stuck there! Of course at that stage I was blaming the controls. Regards. Jim

Jim: As long as the pilot can land the plane the effect should be reset. But if all else fails, (it should not!), then exiting FSFS and FSX and then... stating up FSX - getting into a plane - then starting FSFS will solve it. Happy landings!
