I am very new to flying school and still in the early days of using it. I have the voice pack for the Cessna and also the detailed pack, both show as installed properly in the credits. So far, I am very pleased with the flight school. The voice and keyboard commands seem to be working well except for a couple of things I have not quite figured out yet which will come in time I suppose.

There a couple of things I am really having trouble with in reading the voice pack manual is I am very confused about the use of control-shift-n or b and/or the next checklist/which checklist voice commands.

According to the voice pack manual the instructor should "read" me the checklist, pressing control-shift-n should shows a document checklist for the Cessna 172 on the screen instead of reading me a checklist. In addition, pressing control-shift-n will display "checklist: run-up" and that's it, it does not show me anything further.

Am I interpreting something incorrectly? I expected to see a checklist on the screen and/or the checklist read to me by the instructor but nothing other than run-up is displayed.

Another voice command that I'm having a problem with is "next flight mode". Often when having completed issuing a few voice commands such as "can you hear me", "ground speed" and I say "next flight mode" (for example, to transition from take off for cruising) apparently flying school is issuing a exit FSX command in that suddenly FSX exits to Windows and flying school is still running. I have tried this a number of times and it is very repeatable.

I have been using Windows speech recognition for quite some time for other applications with no problems. I also use Dragon naturally speaking 11.5 with no problems at all. Of course, I do not run them simultaneously. I am running Windows 7 professional, i7 920, 12 GB of memory and a GTX-580 video card. I have been running this configuration for quite some time with no difficulty whatsoever.

Thanks for any help.

John

Hi John:

Thanks for your kind words.

I see what you mean - perhaps the manual misled you.

Ctrl Shift N always causes the instructor to speak the next checklist.

Ctrl Shift B displays the name of the next checklist that would be spoken if you pressed Ctrl Shift N.
The reason we provide this option is that some checklists are quite long and you may not wish to have to listen to a long checklist, just to find out what it has to say.
If you press Ctrl Shift B first, you may decide that you do not need to hear the checklist.

As the manual says:
FSFS-Tip Remember it’s handy to press Ctrl Shift B to see which checklist would be read out by the instructor if the checklist key Ctrl Shift N were to be pressed.

The text contents of the checklists are not displayed on the screen.

We are working on some ideas in this area such as making them available via the Kneepad...

Thanks for the quick response. what are saying certainly makes sense. However, I just posted an edit to my topic that you might want to look at because I'm having some other problems also with the next flight mode command.

Thanks again. Looking forward to your comments about next flight mode.

Hi:

(Based on your latest edit...)

FSFlyingSchool certainly never issues any type of command to terminate FSX  and so FSX on your PC is either crashing (I doubt this) or the Windows speech recognition application is in fact running and processing what you are saying and closing the current application.

If am guessing that "next flight mode" might be misunderstood as "exit flight simulator" or something along those lines...?

I must be doing something wrong. The spoken "Previous flight mode" works perfectly every time. "Next flight mode" exits (not crashes) FSX every single time. All other voice commands seem to work fine.

I'll play with it some more but I am being very careful in my pronunciation.
