Hi SL! I tried the Wind evaluation during taxi the other day...it is great. I found that the instructor starts giving you a hard time even before you had a chance to do all your checks or clearing even while still stationary. Is there a way to "shut him/her up " until you actually start taxiing? It is very difficult to do all your checks while holding the control surfaces at the same time. Maybe something you can look into for the next upgrade? Regards and God bless Alfred

Rapture: Hmmm - interesting points... This sounds like a good idea - the instructor will keep quiet about taxiing in wind unless the aircraft is actually moving. This is a compromise (the wind is still trying to flip us even if we're stopped) that makes sense and certainly can be accommodated. Unless I hear howls to the contrary from spirited forum members, I hereby commit to introducing this logic into the next version. So there you have it - make suggestions and if we can - we do 'em.

Hi SL! Great !! Thanks. I can see why HARD CORE simmers may want the wind logic on all the time. I am a Private Pilot (about 200 Hours) I can clearly say that holding the control column with one hand and pressing buttons is easier in the real world than holding the stick and trying to push combination buttons on the keyboard....I felt like houdini when trying to press all the buttons, change view and hold the stick into the wind all at the same time...... Maybe a check button will give everybody the options they want? Thanks again for your prompt replay and GREAT JOB God bless Alfred

Rapture: Thanks again for the words of support! Yep - another checkbox would be a good idea - the more the merrier because that gives great flexibility to the application, allowing, essentially, everyone to have it their way. Please - everyone - Keep the ideas comin'! As I said, they don't have to be Earth shattering - big or small - we'll listen to anything!

Hi SL! While we are at small ideas, here is another one. Is it possible to force the FSFS mode to remain in cruise UNTIL you specifically inform the instructor to go into approach mode? Some approaches require step descends from quit a distance out and you may still require course needle to point to a different Heading than the runway until you reach the intercept point which may be during your descent. In other words, it can be done by either by telling the instructor that you want to remain in cruise mode even though you are descending OR you remain in cruise mode UNTIL you inform FSFS that you are in approach mode (a bit like when you are moving from Taxi to Take off mode). You may even be able to tell which approach you are doing. 1) ILS (default mode) 2) VOR, GPS or NDB 3) Visual / Circling Again, you may be able to let people choose wether they want FSFS to attempt to guess the proper flight mode OR manual management of flight modes (may even incur better points?) I hope that makes sense? Remember YOU asked for that!!

Rapture: Good stuff again - thanks. Other folks have asked about this sort of thing and I like your ideas. A global checkbox could be: "Auto-detect flight mode?" [] or... there could be checkboxes for the auto-detection of each flight mode, except take off which I am determined to stay away from. Having FSFS recognise that the pilot is performing a non-visual approach which is neither ILS (such as NDB) is something we are looking at, but very much in the planning stages at present... Love the ideas - go for it! I'll look into why you could not edit your own post. And hey everyone else - come on into the Think Tank - give us your thoughts!

Hi SL Here is another Idea. Maybe you can include a Flight mode called "Runnup". That means a) the wind checks for taxiing are disabled during the runnup and you get checked on following the checklists (may even be Interactive by request). Do you have an idea when the next update/release will be happening? Will it be an upgrade (free or for an upgrade fee) or will it be a new full version of FSFS? So many questions! All the best and keep us posted

Rapture: >> Maybe you can include a Flight mode called "Runnup". That means a) the wind checks for taxiing are disabled during the runnup and you get checked on following the checklists (may even be Interactive by request). We'll look at this - nice idea! We need to be sure it won't interfere with the existing scheme. Hmmm - perhaps the 'Back-up-flight-mode' key when in taxi mode results in 'Run-up' or similar as opposed to the present which results in 'you can't back up when in taxi mode...' This also ties nicely with the run-up procedures we have already written for a future version which looks for the pilot diligently switching magnetos, etc. Yes - unashamed plug to get you all interested in future versions... Regarding the flight modes - we tread a tricky path here - for instance (not your point specifically) I don't want FSFS to become something where the user has to fly complete flights - starting with the engine off at parking or a gate and then go all the way through to returning to parking or a gate. We do want the user to be able to fly such 'realistic' flights of course when they have the time, but also want them to be able to just kick the tyres and light the fires or even just practice landings if that's what sounds like fun. This is a difficult concept to get across to some folks who can't imagine starting a flight in the air and howl at the idea of going anywhere without a flight plan... >> Do you have an idea when the next update/release will be happening? Will it be an upgrade (free or for an upgrade fee) or will it be a new full version of FSFS? Ooooh - those are delicate issues. Thus far, we have released 6 new updates in as many months, all of which have been free of charge and which have introduced a very large number of features to the software, not least of which has been support of FSX in addition to FS2004! I appreciate your questions, but am afraid we cannot say at this point - the exciting news is that we have, as has been discussed here in the forum, a large number of new features all stored up in the 'written and being tested' department, which are going to make FSFS even more immersive and (if the pilot wants to fly on 'expert' level) demanding. Many thanks again for the ideas - please keep 'em comin' and spread the word!
