I hope I'm not being unduly pedantic. I haven't yet bought the full version but had the demo some years back and it scared the daylights out of me! I apparently was so bad it couldn't even cough up a bad enough score. I decided that ignorance was bliss. However I've learnt a few things and have heard that FSFS has added a number of attributes.

Do you treat users from an instructor point of view or from that of an examiner?

Is there a difference? I'm intrigued as to whether you really have a teaching element or whether it is critical without saying why and how and just getting marked down. I have nobody to learn from and so this aspect of FSFS is important to me so that I know just what I'm getting into.

Could I spend a couple of hours with the instructor and then, later, set myself up to be "examined" and marked by FSFS.

Knowing how this works would be really helpful. I'm almost of a mind to get the program already but I'd like to know this beforehand. Thank you.

I look at it as both an instructor/examiner because he guides you through the flight and then awards marks at the end based on your flying and landing. There's also your pilot briefing part that tells you where you're improving and what parts you need to work on.

Here's a copy of a flight log, so you can see what you're instructed on and how you're marked....it's very thorough!

Mark - thanks for helping Peter!

Peter - Mark is quite right - while FSFS is not a formal set of lessons, the good news is that your instructor will go with you anywhere you like in any plane, unlike a fixed set of lessons, which are almost always based on a fixed location in a specific airplane. FSX of course already has missions and lessons included.

You can try those and then fly with FSFS from then on, so that you know that you have always got someone with you who can help you do things just right.
