Firstly I would like to thank the team for the voice pack that i recently purchased.....WHAT A GREAT ADD-ON....

To the question at hand, I have just completed 2 identical flights, flight 1 with very good visibility 60.00 and the 2nd with very poor visibility 0.50. My 1st flight score was 102.60 visibility 60.00, flight details below:

Flight Score:102.60

Flight commended in the following areas:

  • Smooth turns.
    Nice banking.
    Correct matching of flaps to speeds.
    Comfortable G forces.
    Smooth pitch control.
    Flown within aircraft's maximum speed limit.
    Gentle taxi turns.
    Good take off steering.
    Rotation was not late.
    Appropriate position of flaps during taxi.
    Safe taxi speed.
    Smooth braking during taxi.
    Smooth climb during takeoff.
    Wings level near ground.
    Well coordinated turns.
    No stalls.
    No flying dangerously close to stall speed.
    Smooth comfortable descent rate.
    Pitch not too high.
    Pitch not too low.
    Flaps down on time.
    Approach speed not too fast.
    Low altitude speeds not too fast.
    Good clearance of obstacles.

    A smooth flight!

And my 2nd flight score was 102.79 visibility 0.50, flight details below:

Flight Score:102.79

Flight commended in the following areas:

* Smooth turns.
* Nice banking.
* Correct matching of flaps to speeds.
* Comfortable G forces.
* Smooth pitch control.
* Flown within aircraft's maximum speed limit.
* Gentle taxi turns.
* Good take off steering.
* Rotation was not late.
* Appropriate position of flaps during taxi.
* Safe taxi speed.
* Smooth braking during taxi.
* Smooth climb during takeoff.
* Wings level near ground.
* Well coordinated turns.
* No stalls.
* No flying dangerously close to stall speed.
* Smooth comfortable descent rate.
* Pitch not too high.
* Pitch not too low.
* Flaps down on time.
* Approach speed not too fast.
* Low altitude speeds not too fast.
* Good clearance of obstacles.

A smooth flight!

My landing score would have probably reflected the poor visibility but i did balloon on landing 2 therefore i realise my score was not as good as it could have been...landing score 1 82.59, landing score 2 94.79. So why therefore was my flight score different by only 0.19, i wasn't expecting a great increase compared to that of my landing scores but i was surprised by it being so small.....

Can anyone help with this as my understanding during flight being able to look around you is vital to safe flying therefore you can only rely upon ATC, as to landing you have ATC, a multitude of instruments and your final visual with runway lights.

Like i have said i didn't expect a great increase but 0.19 doesn't seem right to me.

Hi - very glad you like the Voice Command Pack.

As to the weather...

We need to make clearer in the manual that this is taken into account in evaluating landing scores but not flight scores.

We did the landing logic first because it is a lot simpler than evaluating a flight which would need to take into account the fraction of the flight that the various adverse weather conditions lasted, etc.

But it will come - it is something we have been working on here in our Sinister Lab...

Thanks again squadron leader for your reply, I see as I add more realistic scenarios to FSX and therefore FSFS. I do understand what you are saying about the difficulty in scoring low visibility during flight, but it is not only the ability to see what is around you, which i do think is important to a point but also for very low visibility there could be the problem of spacial disorientation, which i suppose would also bring into play night flying with the right condition also to be a problem.

We can see that over the years IE/ Patsy Cline, buddy holly, JFK Jr and probably many other non famous people who have succomed to some form of spacial disorientation and a few airline pilots with all there sophisticated instruments onboard.

I do hope you manage to resolve this task within FSFS, but then that said on reflection, maybe there is an argument to not increase flight score with poor visibility for light aircraft. Just don't fly. I certainly wouldn't fly in the conditions i have been within the safety of FSX.

But there is that lure of danger that allows us to experience it in safety, so a few extra points would be good

Your point is well made and we will certainly bring this to FSFS as soon as we have it working well and giving sensible results. Many thanks for the input - much appreciated.

Thanks squadron leader....I have to say that i didn't want FSFS to be a competition, i did want to use it as a learning tool but having the scoring tables just bring the competitive streak out in me and probably many others.

All credit to the team for trying to satisfy our every whim. Thanks again.
