ok I was trying to recreate my low visibility flight from post, weather conditions affecting score, when for the first time i have a failure event, i have it set to 49%. Anyway i had just taken off approx 1000 ft when mr smith shouts 'engine fire pull the fuel cut off switch' or words to that effect my adrenaline was rushing believe it or not. So i did and we started to descend obviously, when mr smith calls out 'you shouldn't be descending during take off' this is true but when you have no engine not alot else you can do. So I pushed the fuel cut off switch back in again and again mr smith shouts 'pull the fuel cut off switch' so i do then now predictable he says 'you shouldn't be descending during take off'. This goes on for the duration of the flight 2mins 33secs, i wasn't giving up. That is my first dilemma engine failure but don't descend during take off. Almost saw the funny side of it. But i did land in a built up area successfully and saw that i was getting a landing and flight score yippee i thought and pretty good scores too compared to some that i thought were excellent flight and landings and then got rubbish scores... Now for the piece du resistance....have a look at my scoring Aircraft: Cessna ID: G-BAFM Airline: Flight: Flight plan: EGPH TO EGPF NAV1: Failure(s): None at landing Failure Event(s) (Zulu Time): None Failure Bonus:0% Flight Duration:00 Hours 02 Mins 33 Secs
Landing Score:51.10
Landing was successful in the following areas: - Good alignment with runway on visual approach.
Gentle touchdown. Good landing speed - not too fast. Wings were level. Good pitch control after touchdown. Good pitch at landing. Heading aligned with runway. Good controlled final descent to touchdown.
Landing included the following problems:
- No glideslope information was available on visual approach.
No glideslope - could not compare flare to glideslope. Without flaps - use them for better glideslope and control at low speed. Throttle(s) forward - should be idle. Poor steering after landing - stay on the centre line.
Definite room for improvement...
Flight Score:86.15
Flight commended in the following areas: - Smooth turns.
Nice banking. Correct matching of flaps to speeds. Comfortable G forces. Flown within aircraft's maximum speed limit. Gentle taxi turns. Good take off steering. Rotation was not late. Appropriate position of flaps during taxi. Safe taxi speed. Smooth braking during taxi. Wings level near ground. Well coordinated turns. No stalls. No flying dangerously close to stall speed. Pitch not too high. Flaps down on time. Approach speed not too fast. Low altitude speeds not too fast. Good clearance of obstacles.
Flight included the following problems: - Rough pitch control - that flight felt like a rollercoaster.
Loss of altitude during takeoff - climb smoothly. Rapid descent - dangerous and uncomfortable. Nose held too low - we're not in combat.
Definite room for improvement... Now at first glance i was impressed as many of you may also be but have a look at the failures logged at the beginning, they are in bold....now just to prove that the engine was indeed on fire when i landed i will enclosed a pic....if i can work out how to do it. There is alot of smoke and no smoke without fire i say..... Can someone help me understand what your supposed to do when failures happen.

MB: Great to hear the words adrenaline and fun in a post. It means a lot to us! Well done for flying with a real possibility of failures. I like to think that flying without them as a possibility is like always flying in perfect weather. Where's the fun in that? Nice picture! The fact is that the fires were added after we'd established the main logic for the failures scoring and they are simply something that has not been added to that logic yet. We are working on this as a few folks have had a similar experience to yours and are wondering what is going on. We will have this done ASAP. As for the "don't descend during takeoff" - that's one of those things that catch out MrSmith and his team. He has not apparently been briefed on the fact that landing safely with an engine on fire is more important than insisting on a proper take-off. But... next time(!) you should advance the flight mode to "landing" and his comments should make a lot more sense. The instructors are not yet fully programmed to work with a completely new set of alternative rules when an emergency exists - this gets very, very complicated. But - we hope to get there soon.

Ahhh that would make sense to advance the flight mode to landing. With flying in 0.5 visibility i suppose i was to concentrated on landing without hitting anything...which i did and i was surprised by the score i got, i was suprised i got a score at all. But thank you for clearing that up for me squadron leader...trust my first failure to be an engine fire

Leave those failures turned on. You'll be surprised what can go wrong on a flight with MrSmith! Did anyone say fuel leak...?
