Hello,

-Windows version: WinXP Home SP2 Patched.
-Flight Simulator version: FS9.1.
-Exact FSUIPC version: 3.71.
-Is FSUIPC registered: yes.
-PC RAM: 1 gig.
-PC Processor: AMD XP3000+ (2.1Ghz).
-PC Video Card: NVidia Geforce 6600GT 256MB.
-Names of any other Flight Sim add-ons running at the same time: RealAir SF260 2005 v3.
-Names of any other software applications running at the same time: AVG anti Virus.

-Who made the aircraft?: RealAir Simulations SF260 2005 v3
-Where did you download/Purchase it from? Simmarket
-What is the name of the folder it is installed in?: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\Aircraft\RealAir SF-260

Problem:
After loading the RealAir SF260 2005 v3 I connect FSFS v1.5 without a problem. However after 10 seconds or so FSFS v1.5 disconnects with error saying that no FSR is present for the SF260, although in fact there is in C:\Program Files\FSFlyingSchool\Aircraft. The file called "RealAir_SF-260.fsr" is present.

Any suggestions what might go wrong here?

Rob:

Thanks for an exquisitely crafted technical question - an splendid example of clarity of inquiry, with accurately reported, detailed data.

I imagine the problem stems from the difference in the naming conventions used for the aircraft.

You mention:
"-What is the name of the folder it is installed in?: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\Aircraft\RealAir SF-260"

and also:

"The file called "RealAir_SF-260.fsr" is present."

It appears that the MSFS folder name for the aircraft does not contain an underscore ("_") after RealAir, but our FSR file does.

As you will know, to the humble PC, these are not the same and, if I am correct, will be enough for FSFS to say that they do not match.

The name given to the FSR should be that given to us by the user who supplied the data, unless we messed it up!
I will look into this...

In the meantime, you should be able to fly (although not submit scores) by renaming the file to: "RealAir SF-260.fsu".

As you'll know you can't submit scores with FSU files, nor can you arbitrarily rename FSR files.

We will look into what happened in the meantime...

Please let me know if the "RealAir SF-260.fsu" workaround works for you.

Hi,

Thank for helping. I followed your suggestion and renamed the fsr file to RealAir SF-260.fsr. It seems to work indeed. However I don't understand why I have to rename it to RealAir SF-260. fsu instead renaming the fsr.

Will there be a revised file so that I can submit scores..

Thanks in advance,

Rob

Rob:

Glad to have been able to help.

Our web site has a list of approved FSR files and also knows the content of each FSR file and will not allow users to submit scores if the content does not exactly match what it has on record.

This is to stop 'silly' folks renaming FSR files so they can use them with the wrong aircraft and also to prevent scores being submitted using unapproved FSR files, which might contain 'silly' data.

So - you're all set to fly the aircraft using the FSU version, and I will proceed with the steps to get the FSR up set so you can submit scores.

Rob:

Just a thought for the weekend...

Until the new FSR is published, unless I am mistaken, you can just rename the Flight Simulator folder to match the FSR file...

What I mean is, you rename:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\Aircraft\RealAir SF-260

to

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\Aircraft\RealAir_SF-260

(note the underscore after RealAir).

In the rough test I just performed with FS, it made no difference. In other words, FS doesn't care what the folder is called, but FSFS does!

I hope this helps.

Just out of interest - for future reference - did the workaround work (if you got a chance to try it)?
