I'm flying a Cessna 172, about 25 miles out and cruising at about 3000' above runway altitude with an ILS frequency selected.
When FSFS detects the glideslope it begins to remind me every 5 seconds or so that I'm below the GS and should intercept it. This continues for about the next 15 miles until I do intercept the GS. That's about 100 repetitions without Mr Smith losing his patience - quite a guy
So should I wait until I'm about 10 miles out before selecting the ILS frequency?
Or what would you suggest?
Cheers
Geoff

Hi there -

I think the best bet is to wait until later before advancing into "landing mode" in FSFS. You can control this with the keyboard or have FSFS detect it for you. Most experts prefer to control it themselves.

When you are in "landing mode" the instructor is expecting you to follow the glideslope.

Please let us know how you get on.

Thanks for the tip, sir. In fact, I somehow came to the same conclusion and I just got back from a flight with Landing Mode detection off, and using C+S+Z to tell FSFS what I was doing. It worked fine.
Thanks again,
Geoff
