Hi all, first post. Sorry that it's problem-related. Earlier tonight I was preparing to start my 5th FSFS flight in my trusty stock C172 - my landing score is almost to where I can fly circuits - when something went wrong. I set up my flight plan, lights, comms, line up with the runway and started FSFS, loaded the fp there, then connected. Mr. Smith responded that FSFS was connecting, then fell quiet. No "let's check our elevators, ailerons and rudders," no "switch off your strobe," nothing. I noticed that I couldn't switch modes [neither Shift/Crtl/Z nor /X]. If I keyed Shift/Crtl/D, Mr. Smith read out my flight plan, but other than that, nada. I took off, flew around, landed, still nothing. Exited FSX and FSFS, then relaunched running FSFS before I clicked "Fly Now," after I was in the air, zip. I must have tried several dozen no-go flights, even some as a new pilot. I had 2 good flights this afternoon, everything went fine then - nothing changed on my system since. [I even advanced my FSX clock to daytime, thinking the instructors might have been sleeping.... ;] Both FSX and FSFS run as admin on Vista 64. Non-USB headset. No key-stealing add-ons. My FSUIPC info appears ok Sim is FSX, FSUIPC version 4.530. No errors. Status is ok Time is 00:00:00 Comms, 00000000 I'm stumped. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi - it almost sounds like the Disable Sound box is turned on at the Pilots Page in FSFS...? Can you check that? What happens when you click on the Listen to Instructor buttons at the Pilots and Aircraft pages both with FSX running and without FSX running? Sometimes, unusual things can happen if you have 'connected' and 'disconnected' FSFS several times while running the same single session of FSX - was this the case? Please let me know...

Good day and thanks for the response, The "Disable Sound" checkbox is unchecked. With and without FSX running, "Listen to Instructor" tells me that I landed too fast. (When I check "Disable Sound," I hear nothing.) Repeated discos and connects may have been occurred in my first bad session, but I've rebooted, cold booted, switched Windows users, switched pilot profiles, switched aircraft, flight plans, etc. No difference. CrtlShiftD reads me my loaded flight plan with the currently assigned instructor, but nothing else happens. One more bit of trivia - in my last good flight, I switched on "Background Humor" and heard the girl's voice. Also in that flight, I couldn't Crtl-Shift-Z (nor -X) to move from Taxi to Takeoff - so I was dinged points for taxiing too fast, with flaps down, etc. It detected takeoff about 20 ft AGL, and switched to cruise and landing just fine. Mr. Smith chatted, coughed and hummed along the way. Everything about FSFS seems to work as expected... except no one will fly with me....

... then when I didn't expect it, Mr. Smith deigned to grace me with his august presence. Seriously, it simply worked again this afternoon. My flying score dropped to 95 as I rotated a split-second too late, and a &#^@%!! gust of wind blew me off the centerline as I was landing - good alignment and glideslope shot to pieces with a zero score there. I didn't know how to signal a go-around - backing up to ''cruise'' appears to be the ticket, correct? http://www.fsflyingschool.com/forum/Topic3390-5-1.aspx I'm really enjoying FSFS.

Fenric.
Might have been one of those 24 hour tumours on the vocal cord, thats been going around, that kept Smitty silent.
Seriously, if there is one thing Ive learned, it is that strange things like this, always happens in the wonderful world of computers, and all you can do is shrug and move on.
Good that its working for you again.
Yes backing up to cruise mode is the ticket if you need to abort landing, so keep that key-kombo in hand in case you need it fast. I have my kombos mapped to my controller, for easy access.
Fenric. Have you looked in the competition part of this forum. We are a few guys flying a little friendly competitive flying, all fun and relaxation. How about considering to join in? We start a new competition november 1. in Australia and Asia. The more the merrier.
Regards

Fenric: So glad to hear you'are all set! Very mysterious - but with so many combinations of Windows, hardware, FS versions, FS patches, FSFS versions (2), sound drivers, sound hardware, etc... this stuff can be a real tangle to untangle sometimes. Welcome to the FSFlyingSchool Skies!

Ole and Biggles, Thanks. I'll see if I can give the competiton a shot. One thing I ask -- if I break my Cessna mid-tour, please don't abandon me where I'll be eaten by dingos. S/l, Rgr that. I sysadmin IIS servers and write code by day so I know the headaches these boxes can bring. Best,

Best,
Fenric.
This is GREAT! Welcome to our small (but ever growing) competitive group of fly-nuts.
Beware that we plan to start a little early - this friday, and en phase one on december 1.st, but we still hold on to the start/finish date of phase two, so it just gives everyone a little longer Christmas break (All of december)
You pick a plane or two, and make a post in the competition part of the forum, and youre set. The rules are there for you to read, should you not have done so yet.
And Fenric. I have the spendid Aerosoft Seahawk/Jaykawk helicopter add-on, so should you get lost in mid Australia with a busted Cessna, just buzz me, and Ill send a search and rescue team out for you ASAP!
In the competition forum, we also have a little who and where are you post. If you would like to share just a little info on yourself, thats the place to put it.
Mighty cool to have you onboard.
Regards

G'day sport, Good to have you on board Bent Cessna? No worries we have spares parked up all along the route -- just in case TIP OF THE DAY: make sure your ok with creating your own landing spot files - it helps with the scores Biggles
