Hi

I have just purchased FSFlyingSchool, so it all still new for me.

When I taxi I always get the message, "Lets make gentle turns during taxi", this then goes against me in the score.
I am flying in FSX, a Saab 340 and using a Black Widow controller with Rudder control, no matter how slow I taxi or how gently I try to turn I still get the message.
I have tried adjusting the sensitivity of the rudder but no joy.
Anyone help please????

Ozzy

Hi Ozzy.

A few questions - and remember, I know nothing of your piloting skills outside of FSFS, so forgive me if the things I say sounds condescending.

How fast are you taxiing?
Are you using real weather - or wind?
Is it only in the Saab that you get the message? - Then it must be a problem with the planefile. Try other planes.

And old thumb rule says "never taxi any faster than you can walk" and in a plane such as the the Saab, or the dash-8 for that matter, if you use cockpit view, its easy to loose track of the speed. 10 knots feels like parking, and tailwind will increase your "speed!"

So the rule, as i see it, is to keep a keen eye on the speed indicator, and keep it DOWN. then turns shouldn't be a problem.

Let us know how you get on.

Ole Andreasen, Denmark

Hi guys.

Thanks Ole, for helping!

The message from the instructor is triggered by lateral forces on the plane caused by turning hard (making a small radius turn) and also of course by the taxi speed. Even at 12 knots it would still be possible to "spill coffee" as it were if the turn were hard enough.

From what's been said it sounds like this is being taken into consideration, but I can only suggest trying some other planes and taxiing very slowly (say below 10 knots) and turning very gently.

You mentioned a Black Widow controller with rudder control - I am not familiar with this (sounds cool!) and, as we have not had a lot of feedback about problems with this area of taxiiing, I would suspect that this is in someway connected with the sensitivity of turning with this controller.

Given the present facts I do not think that you are taxiing too fast, but rather that the turns are too rough , perhaps due to the controller...?

Hi Guys

Thanks for your help.
It was my controller setup.
Adjusted the Sensitivity and Null Zone for the Rudder, now if I keep it at around 10 knots, I can taxi to the runway without comment.

So far I have found Flying School very helpful, and with the support you guys give well worth the money.
