Hi Folks.

I'm pretty new to sims in general, having started with car race sims less than a year ago. Having a TrackIR, I thought flight sims would be worth a look. I bought a Saitek Cyborg 2 weeks ago and tried both the FAX and Silent wings demo.

I have no experience in aviation but am keen to try gliding. I would not even rule out a try out flying lesson at the local airfield given that the best time and place for gliding, for me, is Waikarie next summer. (I live in South Australia.)

I have alot of questions about sims, learning to fly, programs, planes and learning their controls and instruments etc.and thought that since it was the availability of this program that decided me to start with FSX. then this was a good place to start posting questions.

One quick proviso before I do though.

It would be obvious to anyone that the answers are all in the manual.

Problems are;   1) Knowing the right question to ask.  2) Knowing where, or in which manual to look. 3) Finding the time to read all the manuals and  4)..... The biggest problem for me..... Having enough brain cells left to remember it all.

OK, some questions;

1) Can I register FSFlying school on my laptop as well as my home computer. I will in a year or so upgrade myhome computer to a 3 screen monster with formula1/glider stylesit in, surround sound, 3 screen etc. We have a motor home and it would be nice to take a laptop and joystick while holidaying.

2) When will you be offering support for gliders?

3) How does one actually learn to fly? I mean, I can take off from Parafield (SA) my local airfield and fly around for a bit, sometimes without even getting lost, and then after finding the runway again land in an allbut eligant fashion, but how do I structure lessons and practice sessions. I had hoped I would find something like this in the menus of the program.

Are touch and go's the way, and if so how do I set that up?

That should be more than enough to keep me busy for a while.

Also, does any one here have any experience with 'Condor'. They have some sort of training program but no demo.

Thanks and cheers,

 Steve.

You can run FS2004 and FSX with a single copy of FSFS, but you need a copy of FSFS for each PC you are using.

>> 2) When will you be offering support for gliders?

This is something on our list, but will not happen too soon - it is not an item in great demand from our users. Nevertheless, we would like to to add it and have already done some promising work in our Sinister Lab. The same goes for helicopters, which are rather more in demand with our users.

Our software has free demo versions of course and the manual comes free with them. We also have a number of movies to help sim fans discover what FSFS is about before they buy it.

We do not do formal lessons and we do not do formal checklists. Other products out there do this already and our mission is to provide what they do not, that is, constant monitoring of scores of aircraft data, to help the sim fan become a more realistic pilot.

We advise using the excellent lessons in FS2004 and FSX and the missions in FSX to learn to fly (a simulator), with FSFlyingSchool running at the same time. Once you have all that under your belt, continue flying with FSFlyingSchool - the instructors will be sure to 'keep you honest'!

>> Are touch and go's the way, and if so how do I set that up?

FSFlyingSchool does not fully support 'touch-and-go's.

Sorry - I don't know. I'll let everyone else have a go at that question.

Thanks for your interest in FSFS.
