Hi - newbie here.  I've just got the demo - Flying School is installed on a networked machine and connects via WideFS with latest vers of FSUIPC.  The installation went fine, makerwys ran fine too; in fact I had no probs at all until connection to FS. The connection is OK - however the program does not seem to recognize my plane which is the Carenado Piper Arrow.  An appropriate data file exists in the aircraft folder but I still get Unknown on the aircraft page.  Also, when I connect, no data at all appears on the aircraft page all is greyed out. I've left it for several minutes but still get no data, estimated or otherwise.

It appears as though the program has no info on the plane type. However, when I test the controls I do get the Instructor's acknowledgement so clearly there is some form of connection.

I hope I've been clear and more so that I haven't done something really silly. Any ideas?

Bud

OK eventually I managed to get the data.  First I loaded one of the default planes - a Cessna. After a couple of attempts, the data for the Cessna was displayed with the appropriate file location.  I then changed planes to the Piper Arrow and FS disconnected on plane change.  However, when I reconnected, the Piper Arrow data was displayed properly as a user file with the file location noted.

Could this have been an issue caused by using the program on a networked machine meaning that the program had a difficulty in locating the right folders.  I wonder.

One other thing did then arise in regard to the checking of controls.  Rudder and elevator checks were acknowledged but not the ailerons. I'm using a Saitek Pro Flight yoke. Could this be a calibration issue?

I think I'm turning into a menace here

Hi Bud. Welcome to FSFlyingschool forum.

I cannot comment on the first part of your post, the networking part, as I don´t know the answer. SL will look into it any time soon now, and post a reply for you.

As for the ailerons checklist. I have the Saitek Pro Yoke too, and sometimes I have trouble getting a "checked" on that one too. I have put in some deadzone to the yoke, and I reckon thats why. But get it - slowly - into both corners and sometimes that helps.

And you are no menace at all. Just ask away, and we will try to help out. Getting you to be a happy FSFS pilot is our goal!

Hello Ole

Many thanks for your response.  Using the program on a networked machine is an excellent experience in the sense that Instructor's comments come across from a different direction from FS sounds - it adds a lot to the illusion .

I'll keep trying with the Saitek.  I'm one of those people who has been using Flight Sim for many years and got into some sloppy habits.  I've found out just how sloppy .  If I can overcome the blows to my personal pride I think I'm going to love this program.

Bud

You can actually direct the sound from FSFS to come from another source than FSX if you have like two soundcards or a USB headphone set ( I use that sometimes) that way you can seperate the sounds, and have FSFS running on the local machine at the same time.

And as for the sloppyness of flying - well I certanly know that. Thats what makes FSFS so strong. Mr.Smith WILL tell you off when you think you are such a hotshot...

Happy flying, and pop in here every now and then to let us know how you get along. and ahem.. we have a flight competition section if your interrested!
