Just purchased the complete package of FSFlyingshcool 2018 for Xplane 11. Installed, registered all the add-ons etc. All went fine. Started Xplane 11, then Fsflyingschool and tried to connect. Fsflyingschool closes/crashes.
This is not my first version, i have used fsflyingschool with FSX and Prepar3d. I recently switched to X-plane 11.
Does this version support X-plane 11 steam edition? That is what i am currently running. I searched this forum for this question and did not see anything in return.
Thanks
Deuce

Hi Deuce:
Glad to help - we'll get you up and flying with FSFlyingSchool.
Yes it certainly supports X-Plane from Steam.
>> Fsflyingschool closes/crashes.
I need a little more detail here.
I need to know if anything is displayed on the screen at all - any error, message, anything.
If so, please send a screenshot to
JeffPreston@FSFlyingSchool.com
Next - this step must always be taken exactly as described in the installer program...
IMPORTANT! FSFlyingSchool should always be run 'as an administrator'.
You should do this even if you are the only person who uses the PC and even if you are an administrator.
To do this, right click on the FSFlyingSchool icon, shortcut or menu item you use to launch FSFlyingSchool, select
'Properties' from the menu, select the 'Compatibility' tab, and turn ON 'Run this program as an administrator'.
Has this been done exactly as described?

So after install, i set up Fsflyingschool to the dir that X plane11 is in. setup the pilot settings, generated airport data. saved the configs. closed. Then i started Xplane11, Had the default Cessna 172 on the runway ready to go, then started Fsflyingschool and selected "Connect" at this point the fsflyingschool crashes, shuts down as if the Connect button means Close. There is no error or popup to indicate such.
As to your second question, yes, i right clicked the shortcut, properties, compatibility, and selected "run as administrator" So each launch of FSFS starts as administrator.
I looked for logs in the FSFS install directory and found none. I did not however look in the application log of the event viewer to see if there was an application error.
I'm an IT engineer (25 years) and am well versed in application debugging, so if there are any debug flags I can use on the start line, that would cause it to log an error, please let me know and i will give it a shot.
Thanks,
Deuce01

Hi Deuce:
Thanks for the information.
This is puzzling.
I'd like to gather data and try some tests.
1. Please copy and paste the contents of the
settings.ini
file from the FSFlyingSchool folder into a reply to this post.
2. Without XP running, please run FSFlyingSchool and press 'Listen to instructor' at the Aircraft screen and let me know if you hear the instructor.
3. With XP running, please run FSFlyingSchool and press 'Listen to instructor' at the Aircraft screen and let me know if you hear the instructor.
4. Quit all programs and then start XP and get into a plane. Launch FSFlyingSchool and then if you have turned on listening to the microphone at the settings screen Voice Command Status of FSFlyingSchool please turn it off and try to connect again.
Please let me know how you get on.

Hello Jeff,
I did get the program working. I did perform steps 2 and 3 and they both worked fine, could hear the instructors voice. When i hit connected, it starts to connect, and then wold crash. I looked in the windows event viewer application log and found the following error:
Faulting application name: FSFlyingSchool.exe, version: 6.4.0.0, time stamp: 0x5b6454df
Faulting module name: KERNELBASE.dll, version: 10.0.17134.165, time stamp: 0xfa43f4b2

I did see this error on the FSFS forum by another user (for the 2017 version) but figured i would give it a try. I did not however uninstall Windows10. I uninstalled FSFS2018 xplane11 (was installed in c:\program files (x86)) and installed, as administrator, it in C:\program files\ Set to run as administrator as documented by FSFS2018.
I didnt create any special settings, and registered the program and launched XP11, connected FSFS2018, it also worked. I added all the addon licenses to FSFS2018 and it continues to work.
Not sure if it likes the c:\program files (x86) dir
So it appears my problem might have been on install, or the initial directory. In any case, all seems to be well now.
Below is the windows error report file contents from the original install failure
thank you

Hi Deuce:
Great to read that you are up and flying with FSFlyingSchool.
It is often the case that installing again - especially into a new folder - will solve issues. If they are solved, it of course suggests that something had compromised the older installation.
NOTE TO ALL READERS:
(These comments do not reflect on Deuce's excellent solution. I simply thought it best to mention them again.)
We generally find that reinstalling the simulator (X-Plane; FSX; P3D; FS2004) will make no difference to solving a problem with FSFlyingSchool and we will almost never recommend this.
We generally find that reinstalling Windows will make no difference to solving a problem with FSFlyingSchool and we have, I am almost certain, never recommended this.
