Hi:
FSX attempts to tell us if the plane has crashed, but this does not always happen, so, in addition to what FSX might be thinking, your instructors also apply their own rules to detecting if a plane has crashed, such as a very odd pitch or bank when on the ground and stopped.
But... sometimes... a crash can occur and the instructor does not know it.
