I have just started using FSFlyingSchool and was disappointed, on my first circuit, to be told "lets not lose height during take off" although I was merely adjusting altitude on crosswind and downwind legs.

Also I was constantly told to put the gear up when on base and coming in to land on finals !!

Is this me or the software ???

Welcome to the forum!

No problem - this all indicates that the flight mode was not indicated to the instructor - see Flight Modes in the manual - but for now, just be aware that you need to tell the instructor when you have entered cruise mode by pressing the keys to advance the flight mode or this can be detected automatically if you prefer when you level off - this is part of the automatic detection set up at the Pilots Page. You also need to do the same when landing.

If the instructor thinks you are still in the midst of a takeoff, he/she will tell you to raise gear and not to lose altitude.

Some users like the automatic detection of changes from takeoff to cruise to landing and others prefer to indicate it themselves - you can pick whichever you are more comfortable with.

No, I had definitely selected 'circuit' and this had been acknowledged.

Also there was circuit instructions and comments coming in as well as the spurious comments mentioned in my first e-mail !

I can see what is happening here.

Circuit mode is a mode separate from the flight modes. While flying a circuit in FSFS the pilot will still indicate takeoff, cruise, landing.

Please read the manual regarding how to indicate to the instructor that you are changing from takeoff to cruise, etc. or just let the program do it for you as described in my previous post.

Happy landings!
