Hi guys,

I'm quite new to this wonderful software and I'm having loads of fun learning to fly a bit better

I'm at the moment playing around in my good old and faithful A2A J3 and have made a fsu file for it, as I couldn't find a fsr. Only problem is, that I keep getting penalties for not deploying my flaps at landings, but my plane is set to have zero flaps at all. I have made the file with 0 (zero) in all the flaps settings, but I still get penalties. What's wrong?

Thanks
Brian

Hi:

Many thanks for your kind words!

FSX is telling FSFS that the plane has flaps. This can happen sometimes with 3rd party planes.

FSFlyingSchool is built to work with any powered airplane, but it can sometimes be the case that planes made by a third party (not Microsoft) present issues. There are 100s of planes that work just fine and a handful that present some problems.

This is a very rare situation, and there are very few reported cases of such problems in the 7 years over which FSFS has been published.

The A2A c172 was quickly identified as presenting a few small problems and these have been specifically targeted and solved by us. You can fly with the A2A c172 in FSFS without problems.

Other A2A planes should be tested if you wish to use them - you can of course do this using the free demo which has no time limit.

One of the items on our list of things to do is to provide a simple way for the user to indicate to FSFS... "Ignore what FSX is reporting - this plane has NO FLAPS!"

I'll do my best to get this into the next release!

Sorry to drag up an old post, but did this ever get resolved?

Thanks.

Hi Rob:

Sorry for the delay in replying - we've added logic since this was reported to reduce the likelihood that the pilot will encounter this problem rather than changing the user interface.

As a result, the number of planes that bring this problem has been massively reduced.

Regardless, we still plan to give the pilot a final means of blocking what the simulator is reporting with regard to the presence of:

- Flaps

- Retractable gear

- Spoilers

We'll let everyone know when we publish it.

Is there an fsr file available for the A2A J3? I could not find it in the list on the site of supported aircraft.

I'm just starting with FSFlying school and don't know how to add the J3 myself (with all the technical details)

In my first attempt to use FSFlyingschool with the J3 the instructor kept asking me to retract the landing gear (which it obviously does not have :cool

Hi:

There is no FSR for the A2A version of the Piper J3.

Any powered airplane is supported by FSFlyingSchool for FSX or P3D.

If you want to add your own data you can at the aircraft screen using the directions given in the manual.

Note that any plane you add there will not be able to submit a score to the website tables, but it will be able to do all other things planes can in FSFlyingSchool.

If you are using FSFlyingSchool PRO 2017 for FSX/FSX-SE/FS2004 or FSFlyingSchool PRO 2017 for P3Dv3 then there is a file called
"Piper_J3Cub.fsr"
in the Aircraft folder of FSFlyingSchool which contains the data needed for the aircraft.

If you want to use that file as the basis for a file for the A2A then you should copy it and change the extension to .FSU instead of .FSR

You need the name of the file to exactly match the name of the folder containing the A2A plane. As you can imagine, this is also described in th manual.

Please let me know how you get on and if you have any questions.

Thanks for the help, Jeff.

I have the PRO 2017 version for FSX-SE and managed to create an .FSU file for the A2A J3 and don't have messages any more concerning flaps and landing gear

I don't care much at submitting my score to the website tables. But it wouldn't hurt if you could include the A2A J3 as an FSR file for convenience (and perhaps for others).

Kind Regards,
Peter

Hi Peter:

Excellent result!

We'll see if we can get hold of the plane so we can create and test an FSR for it.

Have a great weekend of flights!
