I have upgraded to FSFS 2009 and cannot get the NonILS data for FS runways to import.I fly in the province of NB Canada and have made the runways for one airport CYCF Fredericton. When I put in a flight plan to fly from CCR3 to CYFC the only data was the runways I put in. I asked for the collection of the runway data but it did not come in. I checked in the nonILS folder and there are 73 runways listed but only the four I entered for my area. When I reverse the plan to fly from CYFC to CCR3 I do not get any data on CCR3. I flew the first plan and the pilot log report said I landed 4300 ft from where I was supposed to. I would say that it was closer to 300 400 ft.

To be sure I did not ask a question already asked I copied and followed the tutorial posted in the FAQ by oleandreason to be sure I did everything correctly. When I import the  NONILS data there is no errors and the computer does this very fast. Is there another way to get this done?

Thanks for your interest in FSFS!

If you have commas for decimal places in your language settings this may be the reason. We have published a fix for this - it has affected only 1 user so far, but I recommend, if you do not have standard US or UK English for your Windows settings, that you download and install the latest version of FSFS2009 from our web site and then  use that to generate the runway data.

Note that the data is not stored in the NonILS folder as 50,000+ files. It is stored in a single file.

Let us know how you get on.

I have just completely downloaded the latest version of FS FS, uninstalled the existing version of FSFS and done a complete reinstall. My keyboard is a MS Natural wireless Keyboard. The configuration is US and the language is English Canadian with no second language.  I also removed the 4 runways I had configured for Fredericton CYFC to allow for the installation of the runway data by FS FS. I had FS FS connected to FSX, the plane is a Cherokee 180F located on the end of the runway at CCR3 and the flight plan is files from CCR3 to CYFC. The airplane data is showing but none of the runways at CYFC are showing after I pushed the button on the settins page to import the runway data.

In the flight plan screen the lats and Lons for the two airports are showing. Right beside the Flight parameters box above the box for "Generate Runway data for FRX & quit FSFS" The message is in Red FSFS2009 runways data not present. This is after I already have pushed the same button under settings. The box " Generate runway data for FSX" is grayed out

I am running Vista Ultimate. Do you have any suggestions.?

Thanks for all the information - we'll get there. I need to ask several basic questions.

1. Did you download the latest version of FSFS2009 from our own web site?

2. Does your Windows system represent decimal points with commas "," or with periods "."

3. Please tell FSFS2009 to create the runway data again from the Settings page and watch what happens. It should take a few minutes to run the MakeRunways program and then take about 30 seconds or so to run a second program. Is this what you see - or is it different?

Answers from last reply:

  1. I down loaded the Demo from your site. Today I did the following:
    1. deleted the down loaded FSFS 2009 file.
    2. Uninstalled FSFS as administrator. The file folder for FSFS was removed in the uninstall.
    3. Re-downloaded the Demo file from your site. Version 2.0.0.24
    4. Installed as administrator.
    5. Note I did not have to put in my registration data again.
    6. Started FSX, Loaded Carenado Cherokee and Flight plan from CCR3 to CYFC
    7. Started FSFS, connected to FSX.
    8. Loaded flight plan from CCR3 to CYFC.
    9. Loaded runway data from Settings screen. No runway data was loaded. I also did this from the flight plan screen rebouted and did it all again with the same result.
  2. Changed keyboard and language settings to US and US English. Commas are used in Europe and I do not use them here.
  3. When I create the runway data the Screen to do this flashes, only once, for no more than one second and then closes. No data is down loaded.

I suspect that there may be a permissions problem here.

We can do this outside of FSFS by logging in as an administrator and going to the

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X

folder in Windows Explorer.

From here we need to run this program

MakeRwys.exe (the file extension may be hidden on your PC - just make sure it is a program)

and then run this program

FSFSRWYS.EXE

which should end in the creation of the file

FSFSRWYS.TXT

in the same folder.

That file contains all the runway data - drawn from FSX - for FSFS20009.

Can you try this and let me know what happens?

The two programs you are referring to are located in the C:/Programs file/FSFlyingSchool/ folder not in the FSX folder were they supposed to be inserted in the FSX folder during the install. When I tried to run as Administrator each program they reported there was no data on runways. Could they be in the wrong folder or missing the proper path to the FSX folders?

It sounds like we're almost there.

They are copied into

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X

when they are invoked from the FSFS program. As you have reported, this did not succeed on the PC in question.

So - please just copy both of them into

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X

and then run them from there. This should work fine and the FSX runway data should be found and prepared (transformed) for FSFS2009.

Let us know how you get on.

I moved the two files into the FSR directory and run them. The program did exactly what it was supposed to do. There were 24490 airports and 58017 Runways. I flew the plan from CCR3 to CYFC and all went well. I have loaded FS2004 onto my computer for the VRS F/A 18E jet. Will I have to also move these files to the FS( directory like FSX? I put filght mode into Auto detection for landing and cruise. This is very annoying when you change altitudes and the instructor keeps wanting to land. Do most people leave them as a manual selections?

Thanks you very much for the help and perhaps you can take a look at the install program to see why the files were not moved. I run Vista and always execute installs as administer to avoid problems.

Again thanks.

I have mine set to manual control. This makes it easier. I also use Radar Contact v4 and when atc has me descend gradually, I don't want FSFS to think I'm starting to land.
